CIS Benchmarks
CIS Benchmarks
Published by Center for Internet Security (CIS), an independent nonprofit · Versioned per product — each benchmark is revised on its own release cycle, not as one numbered edition
Consensus-based, prescriptive secure-configuration guides for specific technologies — operating systems, cloud providers, software, and network devices — developed and maintained through a community consensus process.
How it’s structured
- 100+ configuration guides spanning 25+ vendor product families
- Each benchmark offers Level 1 (baseline, low operational impact) and Level 2 (defense-in-depth, for higher-security environments) profiles; some benchmarks also carry a DISA STIG-aligned profile
Who it applies to
Any organization configuring or hardening the specific technology a given benchmark covers.
How Pentforge uses it in an engagement
- Configuration review of in-scope systems against the relevant CIS Benchmark profile
- Findings mapped to the specific benchmark recommendation, not a generic best-practice note
What you get
- A configuration gap list keyed to the exact benchmark and profile level
- Remediation guidance per finding with re-test on request
